The Talented Mr Ripley

By Patricia Highsmith

"Tom glanced behind him and saw the man coming out of the Green Cage, heading his way."

There's a lot in that opening line and Tom Ripley is a fascinating character- he has you both horrified but also backing him in his schemes. This is a real classic psychological thriller, first published in 1956 and then probably made more famous by the movie with Matt Damon, which is really worth watching. But read the book too because it's different but the same and adds so much more to the stoey and character.

Patricia Highsmith was a fantastic crime writer.
