Heyerdahl was probably most well-known for The Kon-Tiki Expedition- it apparently sold over 20 million copies worldwide. But the Ra Expeditions are extraordinary- he wanted to test the theory that ancient Egyptians could have reached South America before Columbus. So he made the sort of boat that the Egyptians would have used centuries ago - and set out across the Atlantic.
This is true adventure stuff that makes for a fascinating read. With plenty of colour photographs.
