The tale of an evangelical baptist preacher, Nathan Price,  who takes his family to the Congo in 1959. This fantastic story was one of the 1999 finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in fiction. A great read.  The story is narrated by Nathan's wife and daughters in turn, and it's absorbing, thoughtful and dark. 

And any book that opens with this line, has to draw you in, 

"We came from Bethlehem, Georgia, bearing Betty Crocker cake mixes into the jungle."
