This story centres around life in a small Welsh town and a group of retirees who squabble and moan and argue and drink huge amounts. They discuss their past grievances with each other and there's a lot about bowel habits. They maybe on the more mature side (as was Amis when he wrote it), but they are as flawed as people of any age. This is a warm and comic novel - you may like it. You may not. But the Booker prizes judged it highly. Worth a try if you are a fan of Amis, or even if you've never read any of his work before - it could be a good intro.
