by Alan Mulgan
Published in 1958 this book is an expansion of a series of radio talks of the time.
"This story of mine is of a New Zealander who was born in New Zealand and has lived all his life in this country, save for a few months in England and a short visit to Australia...."
Alan Mulgan looks back on his life as a New Zealander, this is a mix of personal anecdote and some interesting history. He remembers a society where a telephone was a curiosity, where men wore stiff white shirts and white collars, where women did not travel alone and a law was coming into place to give shop assistants a half-holiday a week. The book covers his time at school and his working life and it's full of fascinating little details about daily life as well as broader ideas about society and history.
Hardback with dustjacket, small tear on front cover as per image. But otherwise in good condition.
