Edited by Joan Stevens.
An annotated edition of the journal Edward Jerningham Wakefield kept during his first year back in London after a stay in New Zealand. The son of Edward Gibbon Wakefield, he had recently published Adventure in New Zealand. His journal offers a glimpse of this period in his life, and the book also tells the intriguing story of how the original journal came to light.
Well annotated and explained, this is a rewarding read for those particularly interested in the history of the period or the role of the Wakefields, father and son, in events. It is not a light historical memoir.
Published in 1972. Hardback with dust jacket in very good condition, with illustrations and a fold-out map of London. There is an Ex Libris stamp with a previous owner’s name on the first page.
