Foreign correspondent Kemmer weaves together this interesting account of a decade spent in Pakistan, Kashmir, Iran and Iraq. He explores the carpet trade in these societies because he clearly appreciates the craftmanship and beauty of some of the carpets, but also as a way of telling a story and understanding one of the region's largest exports and how those involved in the trade have been effected by war and disorder. It's an unusual angle but it make it all the more interesting.
