And what a story - born in Chicago he whirls through unusual jobs from a butler to a shoe salesman. a stint in the merchant navy, dog groomer. Supported by a cast of characters, he discovers the world and himself with all the brashness of a modern Columbus.

This book was first published in 1953 and Saul Bellow went on to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1976, for the body of his work. 

Paperback, penguin edition, in good condition. Does contain previous reader's name on top of front page. Plus a couple of passages neatly highlighted.
