by Frank Kelly
In 1944 Private Frank Kelly, part of the paratroop regiment, was dropped at Arnhem. It didn't go well, he was soon picked up by German soldiers and spent the rest of the war in a POW camp. But it was after the camp was liberated that his real problems began. He was mistaken as a spy and shipped off to a Russian prison until 1953.
This is an extraordinary account of his experiences before and during that time in prison. Walking out of the POW camp he wanders around in the aftermath of the war. "There weren't any rules at all. There wasn't any money. You just lived, or you died. You went out and exchanged things for food, or you didn't...".
A fascinating read.
First published in 1954. This is a hardback with dust jacket in good condition but with some foxing pages.
