A story of the Otago gold rush in the 1860s. This is a novel but whilst fiction it was apparently meticulously researched using letters, interviews, memoirs. All important events and the vast majority of trivial ones, even down to the weather on specific dates, are accurately recorded. 

Ruth Park (b 1917, d 2010) was a prolific writer perhaps best known for her children's book.
