This is such a well put together look at a family history and a relationship that explores early colonial society in Canterbury. Adams has compiled this book from letters, journals and other documents of Everard Upton who came to New Zealand in 1858 as a young man and established a life for himself. It's a fascinating history and so well researched and carefully written. A great read for anyone interested in Canterbury history or social history
