Set in the 1680s, this picks up the story of Robert Merivel, physician, as he sets off for the French Court in search of a fresh start in his life. Tremain began his story in her novel Restoration, and this is the sequel but also works as a standalone novel for fans of historical fiction. 

Tremain is a superb writer and this is a fun, rather jaded romp through history.
