Married and Gone to New Zealand

Compiled by Alison Drummond and published in 1960, this is about early settler women living in New Zealand between 1840 and 1850. 

It draws on letters, journals and reminiscences letting the women tell their own stories. They endure terrifying sea voyages, arrive with little and struggle with food, accommodation and a new land far from family and friends. But they are stoic and made of strong stuff.

A fascinating look at a different time, put together in a sensitive amd thoughtful manner by Alison Drummond.
