Set around the Whanganui River in the early 1900s, this novel weaves together the lives of various people who made it their home. From an ex-convict to a market gardener, the nuns at Jerusalem, the Maori families, the Chinese market gardener and a strange silent girl who haunts the banks of the river. This is a wonderful piece of historical fiction, well worth a read.
