This is considered the sequel to Rutherford's earlier novel on Ireland, Dublin. 

This takes up the story of Ireland in the 17th Century, picking up at the Reformation and the arrival of Oliver Cromwell. And if that sounds dry, don't be put off, Rutherford has been described as the 'master of the epic historical novel' - and it's easy to see why. He knows how to weave a good story on a historical background.  If you're a fan of historical fiction - then you should definitely try one of his books.
