This is a collection of interviews with older people around the South Island, those born around the late 1800s.  Hunt has tried to capture some 'folk history' here - people's day to day lives, their memories, how they live and spend their days - and it's both interesting and rather lovely. There are 17 interviews in all - with men, women and couples. 

This is a wonderful book. History is not just a string of dates and important events - it's about how people lived their day to day lives. Hunt has captured that in a highly readable bit thoughtful way.
