I Capture The Castle

By Dodie Smith

"I write this sitting in the kitchen sink..." so begins this 1949 novel of the eccentric amd impoverished Mortmain family, narrated by aspiring novelist 17 year old Cassandra.

The family have taken out a 40 year lease on a dilapidated castle, where they scrape by on the occasional royalty from the father's novel and selling pieces of furniture.

It is funny and warm and thoughtful about families and growing up.
