A man retires from work, receives the obligatory retirement gift of a clock and then comes the boredom of the day's with no structure, no purpose. His wife also finds her days upset by his constant presence and the tension between them grows. Then one day they head out of the city and into the countryside where they spot a house they fall in love with. The story follows their move, leaving the city behind and the start of a new life.
First published in 1931 and then republished by Persephone in their elegant, grey covers with beautiful endpapers. The endpapers here were taken from a linoleum flooring design from 1935.
This is a brand new copy.
