By Samuel Butler
first published 1872 - this is an NZ Classic edition series, published 1973
This is considered a bit of a classic Victorian novel, from Butler who spent time working in New Zealand in the 1860s. It tells of the narrator's travels in a strange, forgotten land high in the misty mountains. In Erewhon - criminals are treated as sick people and sick people are treated as criminals. The book is a social satire that really puts forward Butler's thoughts on society at the time. Interesting and sometimes funny stuff.
Everybody says that Erewhon is the land of 'nowhere' spelt backwards, but it drives me crazy that the w and the h are out of sequence if this is the case. Still a good read though! Don't get hung up on those details.
In good condition. Some creasing on inside of dust cover and previous owner's name has been marked out on first page.
