Born in 1862 in North Canterbury, Mannering lived a fascinating life, tinged with personal sadness but full of fishing and mountaineering exploits around NZ. This book recounts those adventures, along with some interesting history - the start of women working as bank clerks in 1914, the flu epidemic and the 1931 earthquake. Plus there are plenty of wonderful old black and white photos.
