This is such a niche booklet and all the more wonderful for it. It covers the history of the coaching roads, the accommodation along the road and lots of little bit and pieces about interesting characters and history. Great stuff. With lots of black and white images.

The first defined tracks across the Plains west of Christchurch were runholders' tracks used by men on foot and on horseback. They picked the easiest paths or terrain as they made their way through the tussock.
