This is a memoir of the three years the author spent living in Cyprus. Lawrence Durrell (who died in 1990) was a prolific novelist and brother of Gerald Durrell, naturalist. Born in India, he was sent to school in England at the age of 11 and spent large parts of his life in the Mediterranean. Bitter Lemons is an account of three years spent in Cyprus during the 1950s.
