In a small rural New Zealand town, a new supermarket opens up threatening the business of the local general store. But it's a convenient place to shop and whilst the locals are loyal to their general store, they're also really tempted by the array of frozen foods on offer at the supermarket. This is an easy read book with dilemmas that feel as relevant today as they were in the 1960s.
Mary Scott was a prolific writer in the mid-1900s, writing a lot of gently comic novels set in rural New Zealand. She was born in the Bay of Islands in 1888 and started writing in the late 1920s. Her novels were widely read and even translated into German, Dutch and Danish.
